It was the Plitvice National Park that actually first piqued my interest in Croatia. It was (and is) this magical place with endless waterfalls of crystal clear water and I just had to see it with my own eyes. The other week of this solo adventure was spent discovering Dubrovnik and joining about thirty others on a Top Deck sailboat tour heading to Split. Apart from finding myself on what can only be described as an ‘Australian booze cruise’, I had the most amazing time exploring all the islands and towns along the way: Vela Luka, Mljet, Hvar, Stari Grad, and Korcula. I fell in love with the orange roofs and grey stone buildings. We paraglided in stunning Makarska and ziplined in Omis. We had late morning swims in the bright blue salty sea and danced on the deck at sunset. I befriended the South African girls and we dined out in Split and swam at KRKA National Park’s waterfalls before the rain came. A worthwhile and beautiful destination, no doubt.

Then in June 2017 I returned to possibly my favourite spot in Italy – the Cinque Terre – with my sister and her friends. We hiked between towns, watched the sunset from the rocks, ate pizza, got lost in the crowded beaches, ate basil and dark chocolate gelato, meandered the little streets, and even popped in to Pisa on the way there.
